Privacy policy — Etch
Etch is a voice notebook on your Android phone. There is no NeoVetta account and no NeoVetta server.
What the app uses
- Microphone. Recording happens on the device. Audio is stored as WAV files in app storage.
- On-device speech-to-text. The first run downloads an English Whisper model (
ggml-base.en.bin, about 140 MB) from Hugging Face. Transcription runs on the phone. Audio is not uploaded for that step. - Optional “Your AI”. If you configure a provider (OpenRouter, OpenAI, xAI, Ollama, a custom URL, …), Etch sends transcript text only — never the audio file — to that host for titles, notes, summaries, and action items. You can skip this and keep transcripts only.
- What that provider does with your transcript is their policy, not ours. Etch does not control, and cannot see, whether a provider stores your text or uses it to train models. Free models are commonly free precisely because the provider may retain or train on what you send. Treat anything you send to Your AI as leaving your control. If a recording contains confidential, medical, legal, or employer information, use Transcript only, or point Your AI at a model running on your own machine. Check your provider’s terms; on OpenRouter, the data policy is under Settings → Privacy.
- Network. Model download and, if you opted in, Your AI. HTTP is allowed only for a computer you name on your LAN.
What we do not do
- We do not collect accounts, analytics, advertising IDs, or crash reports.
- We do not sell or share recordings.
- Tags, titles, and summaries stay in local app storage.
Your control
Delete a recording in the app to remove the WAV, transcript, and summaries on this phone. Uninstalling the app removes remaining local files. Revoke microphone access in Android settings to stop new recordings.
